You are meandering through the virtual halls of a Linux box,
pretending to be a large cabbage. Or was it the other way
around?
The site history shows at what
addresses this site has resided over the years. One must question,
though: what is this site?
Really, this site, and all sites connected to it, are my lowly
adventures on the Internet. From my first "glory" days on
AOL
[m], through my
dialup days on
DelaNet, during my long stay on Cable, and to be an eventual
customer of DSL, I could not imagine how my life would be had the
Internet not been my mentor and guardian. The site's development
on @Home (which was swallowed by Comcast) was tremendous for such
a small corner of the Internet, and is chronicled herein, followed
by the switch to DSL:
- irix.penguinpowered.com
was the beginning
- os.dyns.cx,
after justlinux.com stopped offering penguinpowered.com
- 24.40.4.186,
while dyns.cx's nameservers went through growing pains and timed
out on my SOA/NS records
- os.markbach.com,
generously offered by Mark Schonbach so I need not use my bare IP
- 68.82.35.89,
after Comcast "saved" @Home customers from suffering the fate of
@Home's bankruptcy
- 68.82.35.89:8080:
I started blocking port 80 from some potentially malicious subnets,
but, just in case, I also ran my webserver on port 8080
- stdout.dhs.org,
because hosting a site on a bare dynamic IP (albeit with a one-year
lease) is never a good idea
- os.us.eu.org,
since dhs.org stopped offering SOA/NS service (only A records)
- 68.82.38.98:
my 1-year lease expired, whee; eu.org took a bit of time to
update their records
- 69.136.249.194:
Comcast shortened the default lease period; eu.org took a bit of
time to update their records (and was slow to update my
zonefiles)
- 66.92.231.92
is my new Speakeasy static IP, one of two
- os.sh.nu
was the first alias set up for DSL; *.os.dyns.cx (now just an A
record) was updated shortly thereafter
- os.1.vg,
my shortest address ever, became the primary one, as eu.org was
getting behind on updating their database, and os.sh.nu was just
an A record (I like running my own BIND!)
- orangesquid.net,
the domain name I've wanted for years (and got in late 2004)
I have also registered/used:
- stdin.dhs.org (now defunct)
- stderr.dhs.org (now defunct)
- blech7777irix.dhs.org (now defunct)
- orangesquid.ind (alternate DNS)
- gro.dyndns.org
- hta.ath.cx
- os.dnsalias.com
- os.dnsalias.net
- os.dnsalias.org
- os.homeip.net
- os.merseine.nu
- os.mine.nu
- os.shacknet.nu
The Wayback Machine has,
fortunately, catalogued a few of the major addresses (shown by
black lines on the site history).
Cable modem mostly depicted the adventures of High School, at
CSW. I have a
site featuring the fabulous escapades from my
freshman
[m]
and sophomore
years at UD (as of
Summer 2004, I am going on my Junior year in Electrical Engineering).
The other sites worth mentioning are the
first
[m],
second,
third,
and (until further notice)
final
[m]
homepages
of the Northern Delaware garage/basement band known as
fear of .Z.E.R.O., and you can stalk me by
reading all about my life.
You can also look at stats on some other
machines I'm running.
